How To Effectively Create a Landing Page

You should think of the landing page of your website as an introduction. This is your virtual first impression. Your landing page will tell visitors the purpose of your website and what it has to offer them. If your landing page is not stellar, your visitors will lose interest and leave before clicking other pages on your site. So how do you create an effective landing page? Here are a few tips.

Be Straight Forward

There is a reason that a visitor goes to your website. It may be that you are offering a product or service that is important to them. If your website does not address this purpose right away, visitors will dismiss the site and will not return. You need to capture the interest of your visitors right away. Create a message that will tell readers about your company and why they need the product or service that you are offering.

Appealing Landing Page Design

Use colors that are pleasing to the optical palette. For example, if you are selling tools, then your primary audience will be men and other do-it-yourselfers. In this case, a palate of pinks and oranges may not be appropriate. Now, that same color palate may be perfect if you are selling products for young or adolescent girls. Also, use coloring that is easy on the eyes. If you are using a font that is hard to read, again, the visitor will not take the time to try to decipher the wording on the page.

Use Images On Your Landing Page

Part of offering a pleasing aesthetic is to break up the text with appropriate photos and even videos. Make sure that this media is relevant to the product or service that you are offering. If your visitor is looking for power tools, photos and videos of puppies will simply make them feel that they have gone to the incorrect website. Make sure that all of the content is relevant.

Keep Your Landing Page Text Short and to the Point

The text that you use is just as important as the other media that you use. No one enjoys a landing page that reads like a novel. Break the text up in small paragraphs of no more than about three to five sentences each. Also, keep the sentences short and sweet. You want the reader to see the text as a fast and easy read. After all, the Internet is supposed to make it all convenient, correct? No one wants to feel as if they are wasting their time by reading a website novel.

Keep Your Quality Content Above the Fold

Your landing page needs to be convenient and require as little work from the visitor as possible. Keeping the information on your landing page above the fold means that all of the information that the visitor needs to see is at eye level. The reader should not have to scroll down the page to find the information that they are looking for. Again, this is about convenience. If the page looks too muddled or if the information is hard to find, you are going to lose that potential sale to a competitor. You want to create value to the reader and you want them to continue to come back.

Personalize the Message

Your visitor came to your site in search of something. You need to make them feel that their individual need has been met. If they feel that their questions have not been answered and they need to go back to their search engine, you have not been successful. You want to relate to your perspective customer. This would be a great time to use testimonials. Your reader needs to see that your site has helped other people in some way.

Create a Clear Call to Action

Once you have created the value of your product or service to the visitor, you need to compel them to act. You may want them to sign up for your newsletter, explore the rest of the site or make a purchase. Whatever you want them to do, you need to create a sense of urgency by using a call to action. Use clear buttons or fields. Do not make them have to search for a way to use your service.
